Kanpur (Desk Report): In India’s Uttar Pradesh state, a love story that began on Instagram ended in tragedy when a young man killed his girlfriend over suspicions of infidelity and disposed of her body in a river.

According to police, 23-year-old Suraj Kumar strangled his 20-year-old partner, Akasha, about two months ago after accusing her of speaking with another man. The case came to light when Akasha’s mother lodged a missing person and abduction complaint just days ago.

Investigators revealed that during an argument, Suraj hit Akasha’s head against a wall and then strangled her to death. He later called his friend, Ashish Kumar, for help in hiding the body. The two men placed the corpse in a bag, carried it on a motorcycle, and traveled nearly 100 kilometers to Banda with the intention of dumping it in the Yamuna River. Shockingly, Suraj even took a selfie with the bagged body—a photo later recovered by police from his phone.

Akasha’s mother had reported her missing on August 8, directly accusing Suraj of kidnapping her daughter. After being taken into custody, both Suraj and Ashish were confronted with call records and other digital evidence. Suraj eventually confessed to the killing.

The investigation also revealed that Suraj and Akasha first met on Instagram and later began seeing each other in person at a restaurant where she worked with her sister. Their relationship led to Akasha moving in with him at a rented house in Kanpur, but within months it ended in her brutal death. Police have confirmed that both suspects are now in jail awaiting trial.
